Life in Kaohsiung

[Current Mood |stressedstressed]
[Current Music |New Found Glory - Hold My Hand]

One of the very unique things about Taiwan is how they do their garbage. Like most places they have their garbage trucks but there garbage trucks are special: they are musical. The way it works is that these musical garbage trucks make their rounds a couple times each day and people walk up to the trucks and deposit their garbage. The first time a foreigner hears one of these trucks in most cases their initial though is 'ice cream truck' unfortunately that could not be farther from the truth. The musical trucks amuse me although I have never actually successfully used one. It just not appealing to me to wait along a street corner holding a bag of garbage.

Rofl. One of those things I never quite got used to, even after 5 years of living there, musical garbage trucks. Actually I always thought the reason for the music is to warn people, and not so much to er, attract them.

I always perceived the music as something that was calling out to the people. Kind of like the Pied Piper calling to the rats using his flute.

That is very strange... Do they have ice cream trucks there, too? If so, how do you tell the difference?

I have not seen an ice cream truck and I'm pretty sure they don't have them. So it's only us foreigners who get confused.
